Jeremy Scott is in a world of his own. Or is he? Perhaps he
is simply holding up a mirror for us to see a reflection of what we truly are:
internet based tweeters, embracing only that which is easily digestible and
offers instant gratification. A world in which we communicate using :),
and LOL and the über expressive
LMFAO.
The Fall/ Winter 2012 collection reminded me of a series of photo
illustrations by my friend Hans Gissinger, entitled “Americas”. In this
project, Gissinger is commenting on America’s relationship with food and the
state of food production in the industrialized world. It is a little difficult
to draw a clear parallel between Hans Gissinger and Jeremy Scott in terms of
message, but visually, there are similarities. I’m not sure what it is Mr.
Scott is trying to say but I am willing to bet it is in some way a comment on,
if not criticism of pop culture.
Of course it is quite possible that I am over-thinking
things. Maybe he’s just a super creative guy painting the world in the colors
he wants it to be. Here are the looks I think made a statement while still
being somewhat wearable.

Hans Gissinger's “Americas”
Hair and make up was Kabuki theater meets Hindu deity meets avatar.
